ABOUT THE SHOW
The SHOW: AIR & WATER
Take an explosive journey through the Earth's atmosphere and hydrosphere in this high energy, interactive science show from internationally acclaimed science communicator David Lampard...
The air we breathe and the water we drink are two of the Earth's most precious resources. One is a collection of gases, and the other a liquid — BUT, both are fluids...
Discover the similarities and differences between gases and liquids in a fast-paced show that's overflowing with fascinating facts and spectacular science — that squirts, squishes, erupts and explodes!
Plus, you'll discover a whole stack of scientific GOOD NEWS — as you explore some of the remarkable science that could very soon help us to put the brakes on (and even reverse!) global warming.
DURATION: 1 hour
SUITABLE FOR: Years 1 to 7
Our shows are tailored to suit the year level(s) as well as capabilities of students attending. We are dedicated to creating an inclusive space where every audience member is valued.

THE PROGRAM: SCIENCE ESSENTIALS
Science Essentials is a new program from That Science Gang —that bursts from international stages and into YOUR SCHOOL!
Our shows poke and prod at the nuts and bolts of our universe — the essentials! We use ordinary objects to produce extraordinary effects, exploring a wide range of scientific phenomena in the process — and then linking these ideas to real world examples as well as contemporary issues.
That Science Gang began performing science shows in schools waaay back in 2002 — creating sweet suite of exciting programs that visited just about every school in South Australia (as well as a whole bunch across Tasmania). Since then we have been touring Australia and the world with our multi-award-winning Science Theatre productions...
In 2026 we are super excited to be returning to schools with our first Science Essentials program — a dynamic STEM-focussed performance tailored specifically for school environments.
Wonder, awe and positivity are the gears and forces that drive all of our productions — creating a positive science experience that your students will be buzzing about long after our visit...

AUSTRALIAN CURRICULUM LINKS
The Australian Curriculum Links outlined below are either directly addressed as part of this show, or are introduced in passing and can be used as a jumping off point for further classroom exploration...
YEAR LEVEL | SCIENCE FIELD | STRAND | DESCRIPTION |
|---|---|---|---|
1 | Biological Sciences | Science Understanding | Identify the basic needs of plants and animals, including air, water, food or shelter, and describe how the places they live meet those needs (AC9S1U01) |
1 | Physical Sciences | Science Understanding | Describe pushes and pulls in terms of strength and direction and predict the effect of these forces on objects’ motion and shape (AC9S1U03) |
2 | Earth and Space Sciences | Science Understanding | Recognise Earth is a planet in the solar system and identify patterns in the changing position of the sun, moon, planets and stars in the sky (AC9S2U01) |
2 | Physical Sciences | Science Understanding | Explore different actions to make sounds and how to make a variety of sounds, and recognise that sound energy causes objects to vibrate (AC9S2U02) |
3 | Physical Sciences | Science Understanding | Identify sources of heat energy and examine how temperature changes when heat energy is transferred from one object to another (AC9S3U03) |
3 | Chemical Sciences | Science Understanding | Investigate the observable properties of solids and liquids and how adding or removing heat energy leads to a change of state (AC9S3U04) |
4 | Earth and Space Sciences | Science Understanding | Identify sources of water and describe key processes in the water cycle, including movement of water through the sky, landscape and ocean; precipitation; evaporation; and condensation (AC9S4U02) |
5 | Chemical Sciences | Science Understanding | Explain observable properties of solids, liquids and gases by modelling the motion and arrangement of particles (AC9S5U04) |
6 | Chemical Sciences | Science Understanding | Compare reversible changes, including dissolving and changes of state, and irreversible changes, including cooking and rusting that produce new substances (AC9S6U04) |
7 | Physical Sciences | Science Understanding | Use particle theory to describe the arrangement of particles in a substance, including the motion of and attraction between particles, and relate this to the properties of the substance (AC9S7U05) |
7 | Physical Sciences | Science Understanding | Use a particle model to describe differences between pure substances and mixtures and apply understanding of propertiesof substances to separate mixtures (AC9S7U06) |
